The Mets acquired Edwin Almonte from the Chicago White Sox along with Royce Ring for Roberto Alomar on July 1, 2003. He made his Mets debut, as well as his Major League debut, six days later against the Atlanta Braves. He pithced two innings in relief allowing a hit and a run as the Mets lost 7 to 3.
Almonte would pitch in a total of 12 games for the Mets in 2003. The good news is he didn’t lose a game, but the bad news is he didn’t win one either. Almonte posted a 11.12 ERA over 11 1/3 innings.
The Boston Red Sox decided to take a chance on Almonte as he was claimed on waivers during the offseason ending his Mets career.
He wore # 56 with the Mets.
