Johan is the Man Shuts Down the Reds - July 6, 2010 Game Recap vs Cincinnati Reds

Johan Santana did it all on Tuesday night throwing a complete game shutout and hitting the first home run of his career as the Mets defeated the Cincinnati Reds 3 - 0.

Santana homered off of Reds starter Matt Maloney in the bottom of the third inning.  It would be the only run Santana would need but Jason Bay, who has been heating up along with the weather, singled home Jose Reyes and David Wright in the sixth inning to give Santana a cushion.

Things got a little scary in the top of the ninth when Jason Bay committed and error on a fly ball to put runners on first and second with one out.  Met manager Jerry Manuel came out to mound but Santana sent him back to the dugout telling him he was going to finish the game.  Two pitchers later he did just that to earn his sixth win of the year.

The win pushed the Mets record on the season to 47 and 37.
