The Mets Hold off the Nats - July 2, 2010 Recap at Washington

The Mets got back in the win column on Friday night as they defeated the Washington Nationals by a score of 5 to 3 as pitcher Jonathan Niese earned his 5th straight win.



Alex Cora broke the game open for the Mets in the 4th inning by hitting a bases clearing triple which was followed by an RBI double by Niese to make the game 5-0.

Jonathan Niese pitched 7 strong innings allowing six hits and just one run before yielding to the bullpen. The Nationals fought back scoring two runs in the 9th inning to pull within two runs, but Francisco Rodriguez came in to close out the game and earn his 19th save. K-Rod picked off Roger Bernadina on 2nd base to end the game.

Jonathan Niese is now 6 and 2 on the season. The Mets improved to 45 and 35 and remain 2 game behind the Atlanta Braves.
