Juan Acevedo - 1997

The New York Mets acquired Juan Acevedo from the Colorado Rockies on July 31, 1995 along with Arnold Gooch for Bret Saberhagen and David Swanson.


Acevedo would make his Mets debut on June 18, 1997 against the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium.  Acevedo pitched 2.1 innings of scoreless releief allowing one hit, two walks and three strikeouts.  The Mets woud lose the game in extra innings 3-2 with Acevedo getting a no decision.

Juan Acevedo would pitch in 25 games for the Mets in 1997, 2 starts and 23 in relief.  He would win 3 games while losing 1 with a 3.59 ERA.

His first win as a Met came on July 6, 1997 against the Florida Marlins at Shea Stadium.  He pitched one inning of relief allowing zero runs and one hit to secure the win. 

In his last appearance for the Mets on September 28, 1997, the last game of the season, Acevedo started the game and threw 7 innings allowing 4 hits ands 2 runs while striking out 6.

The Mets traded Juan Acevedo in the offseason to the St Louis Cardinals for Rigo Beltran.  He would go on to play for the St Louis Cardinals (1998-1999), Milwaukee Brewers (2000), Florida Marlins (2001), Colorado Rockies (1995, 2001), Detroit Tigers (2002),Toronto Blue Jays (2003), New York Yankees (2003)
