Luis Ayala - His Mets Career 2008

The Mets acquired Luis Ayala from the Washington Nationals on August 17, 2008 in exchange for Anderson Hernandez hoping to bolster their beleaguered bullpen as they tried to hold off the Phillies and reach the postseason.

Ayala would pitch in 19 games for the Mets down the stretch winning one game while losing two and did manage to save nine games, but he also blew two saves and was unable to help the Mets avoid a second straight September collapse

Luis Ayala signed as a free agent with the Minnesota Twins following the season.

Tony Armas Jr. - His Mets Career 2008

Tony Armas Jr was a promising young pitcher who was plagued by injuries during his career while playing for the Montreal Expos and Washington Nationals.

The Mets took a chance on Armas by signing him to a minor league contract in 2008. He made his Met debut in July 1 against the St Louis Cardinals and pitched a strong six innings to earn the win. Armas would pitch in two more games for the Mets out of the bullpen before being sent back to the minors.

In three games for the Mets he was 1-0 with a 7.56 ERA.

Marlon Anderson - His Mets Career 2005, 2007-2009

Marlon Anderson was signed by the Mets as a free agent prior to the 2005 season with the organization looking to use him as a utility player and pinch hitter. He had a solid season for the Mets in 2005 hitting 7 home runs and batting over .300 as a pinch hitter.

The highlight of his 2005 season came on June 11 when he hit a pinch hit inside the park home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to tie game against the Anaheim Angels, a game the Mets would win in extra innings.

Moises Alou - His New York Mets Career 2007-2008

Moises Alou was a very talented All-Star outfielder who played for the Expos, Pirates, Marlins, Astros, Cubs and Giants before joining the Mets in 2007. Unfortunately he was also a player whose career was plagued by injuries and his stint with the Mets was no different.


Alou got off to a fast start with the Mets hitting .318 in his first month in Queens, but a torn muscle sidelined him until August. Upon his return Alou would go on to hit .345 down the stretch which included a 30 game hit streak, the longest in franchise history.

Chris Aguila - 2008

Chris Aguila who had played parts of three seasons with the Florida Marlins was signed by the Mets as a free agent prior to the 2008 season.
He made his Mets debut on June 11, 2008 when he replaced Marlon Anderson in left field in the 9th inning against the Arizona Diamondbacks. In his first at bat as a Met he singled to centerfield.

Aguila would play in just 8 games for the Mets hitting just .167 (2 hits in 12 at bats). He was sent back to Triple A New Orleans where he finished out the season. Following the 2008 season Aguila left to play ball in Japan,
