George Altman - His New York Mets Career 1964

When the Mets acquired George Altman from the Cardinals in 1963 they thought they were getting an outfielder who would be one of the cornerstones of the team for the next few years. After all he was only 30 years old and a former All Star. But his tenure with the Mets was disappointing to say the least. In his only season with the team, 1964, he hit just .235 with 9 home runs and 47 RBI’s in 124 games for the Mets.

The Mets had seen enough and traded Altman to the Cubs following the season in exchange for Billy Cowan thus ending his tenure in the Queens.

George Altman wore number 2 with the Mets.
