Luis Alvarado was a light hitting backup infielder who had played primarily for the Red Sox and White Sox. The Mets purchased him from the Detroit Tigers prior to the 1977 season to serve as a backup infielder. He made his Mets debut on April 13, 1977 and went 0 for 2 against the Cardinals. That would be his only appearance in a Met uniform as the Mets sold him back to the Tigers two weeks later.
He wore number 19 while with the Mets.
