The Mets traded Alomar to the Chicago White Sox on July 22, 1967 along with Ken Boyer for J.C. Martin and Billy Southworth. He would go on to have a solid career playing for the White Sox, Angels, Yankees and Rangers.
Sandy Alomar returned to the Mets organization serving as a coach under managers Willie Randolph and Jerry Manuel from 2005 to 2009.
Both of his sons would also play for the Mets, Roberto Alomar from 2002 to 2003 and Sandy Jr. in 2007. They are the only father and son combination to play for the Mets.
As a player Sandy wore #5.
